The Doonie Fund provides micro-investments to Black women entrepreneurs. This fund was started by Kathryn Finney, one of the most influential women in tech (Forbes, Inc, Working Mother), on her birthday, April 5, 2020, with a $10,000 personal donation to encourage other Black women entrepreneurs to continue to build their businesses in the middle of the COVID-19 crisis. So far, the fund has grown to hundreds of thousands of dollars, providing microgrants to over 1500 Black women-owned businesses. The fund also receives support from Doonie’s friends and family and excellent partners such as Pivotal Ventures, UBS, Microsoft, Surdna Foundation, and Impact Seat. The Doonie Fund 2021 grants are funded by a $50,000 gift from Kathryn Finney.

The fund is purposely frictionless (no strings or conditions attached) as Kathryn firmly believes that Black women know what’s best for their companies. Investments are distributed directly into the entrepreneurs’ accounts within days.
The Doonie Fund is named after the founder’s grandmother, Kathryn “Doonie” Hale, a Black woman entrepreneur who inspired her to become an entrepreneur. The fund takes a holistic approach to economic impact by investing in a wide variety of businesses.
